Self-Care: No Permission Needed!

We’ve all heard it before. When on a plane they will tell you that in the event of an emergency and oxygen masks drop, be sure to put the mask on yourself before helping others, even your precious children.

Take a moment and grade yourself on a scale of 0-10, 0 being running on fumes and 10 being an absolute PRO at self care.

Most moms I know, especially those with younger children, are in the 0-3 range and many have never gone on a vacation or weekend trip without the whole family. I wanted to write this just to share a few tips and ideas on how to make sure you are taking care of yourself so that you never run out of gas for your family!

My friend and fellow Life Coach, Bryann, shared recently on our podcast an idea for self-care/ relationship-care for couples. It’s called the 2x2x2. Every 2 weeks, go on a date. Every 2 months, have a little weekend away, and every 2 years have a week long vacation! This was just one couples plan, but if you can do even more, I say go for it! Below are some tips when you might need a little more self care to make it through the month.

3 tips for Self Care - All Free!

1. Take what you can get! Free and quick breaks in the bathroom behind a locked door is 100% okay. Take some headphones and listen to some music or a podcast for a quick break. You deserve it.

2. Have the kiddos enjoy some “Imagination Time” in their room. It is NOT your job to entertain them. Instead of using this stolen time to do extra chores, do something for yourself! A bubble bath, some reading time, even a catnap. ; )

3. Use friends and family to watch the kiddos! Whether it is to sneak away to have dinner together, watch a movie with a friend, or even get away for the weekend. Don’t forget to pay the favor back!

Don’t forget to take care of yourself so you can’t take care of the ones you love.

Annie
